Hearing Loss and the Holidays

Did you know that on this day in history in 1888, Vincent Van Gogh decided that life would be better after he proceeded to remove a large portion of his left ear. The holidays can be stressful, but not enough to cut off your ear.

If the holidays are starting to take their toll, try the tips below to make things easier for your loved ones with untreated hearing loss.

  • Reduce or Eliminate background noise. This allows them to focus on the conversations, not the things going on around them.
  • Try not to talk over each other. With multiple people talking at the same time, it is hard for people with hearing loss to keep up with the conversation.
  • Remind children to speak louder and more clearly when talking to someone with hearing loss.
  • Do not repeat yourself unless you are asked.
