Do you think you have hearing loss and may need hearing aids? Audiology & Hearing Aid Solutions can perform a complete evaluation for hearing aids in any one of our six convenient Northern New Jersey offices.
The process is completely painless and takes less than an hour. Feel free to bring a friend or family member with you if that makes you more comfortable.
To begin the evaluation, the audiologist, or other hearing care professional, will ask you about your medical history and discuss any impacts that hearing problems may have on your day-to-day life. Next, your hearing will be tested.
Hearing test results
Your ears will be tested separately, and in addition to pure-tone testing, other tests may be performed. The results are charted on an audiogram which provides a graphic representation of your hearing ability. Based on your hearing test results, you’ll receive recommendations on how to improve the hearing ability you have. This often includes wearing hearing aids.
Hearing aid recommendation
If your hearing test results indicate permanent hearing loss, hearing aids may be appropriate. If this is the case, the audiologist, or other hearing health care professional, will discuss your lifestyle, your most challenging hearing situations, your budget, and any cosmetic or social stigma concerns you may have. This information, along with your hearing needs, will form the recommendation for hearing aids.
During this part of the appointment, you’ll see different recommended hearing aid styles and discuss the hearing aid functions and features that will help you the most. You will have the option to try out some of these hearing aids in the office so you can experience amplified sound immediately.
Our professionals will discuss your lifestyle, hobbies and preferences to help you make the best choice possible when choosing a hearing aid. The specialists at Audiology & Hearing Aid Solutions will make a professional recommendation about the model and style of hearing aid that will work best for you. However, the final decision is yours.
Ordering hearing aids
If you wear custom hearing aids, impressions will be made of your ear bowl or ear canal. This process only takes a few moments but is necessary to get a cast of the unique shape of your ears. Because custom hearing aids fit perfectly, they are comfortable to wear for many hours.
Your hearing aids will be ordered from the manufacturer and arrived pre-programmed for your hearing needs. When they arrive, you’ll come in for a fitting appointment where the hearing aid programs will be fine-tuned until they deliver sound that is pleasant and comfortable to you.
Hearing is as unique as your fingerprint, and Audiology & Hearing Aid Solutions will make changes to your hearing aids until you experience the best listening possible.
Adjusting to hearing aids
Hearing loss deprives the brain of auditory input. Wearing hearing aids is like wearing glasses; it takes some time for the brain to adjust. You’ll receive instructions on how to best reintroduce auditory input and adjust to wearing your hearing aids. If at any time you have questions about your hearing aid settings, feel free to contact any one of our offices.
