At Audiology & Hearing Aid Solutions, our experience has shown us the importance of using high-quality batteries in your devices. All hearing aid batteries aren’t created equal, and the performance of your hearing aids will greatly depend on the quality of battery used. Here are some answers to frequently asked hearing aid battery questions.

What type of battery is used in hearing aids?
Zinc-air batteries are the most common type of hearing aid batteries used today, but they’re not rechargeable and must be disposed of after use. They come in five sizes and are color-and-number-coded to simplify the replacement process.

How long do hearing aid batteries usually last?
Battery life is affected by a number of factors including:

    • Your hearing loss
As the severity of your hearing loss increases, you may find yourself turning up the volume on your hearing aid more often. The greater increase in sound amplification, the quicker the battery life is depleted.
    • How long you wear your hearing aid
Some people wear their hearing aids 4 hours a day, while others wear theirs for 16. The life of a hearing aid battery is tracked in hours, rather than days.
    • The type of hearing aid
Some devices use more energy than others, but as a rule of thumb- the more advanced your device, the quicker it will drain your hearing aid battery.
    • Your environment
Factors such as humidity, temperature and altitude have the ability to influence the life of your hearing aid battery. Typically, the more humidity in the air, the colder temperatures and the higher elevations, the shorter your battery life.

Where should I store my hearing aid batteries?
We recommend you keep your batteries stored in their original packaging, at room temperature. Also, remember to keep the batteries away from pets and children.
